The tremendous success that Deadpool and Wolverine are achieving in theaters – where it has become one of the highest-grossing films in history – has led many people to try the Deadpool video game (from 2013). This installment, which received a lot of criticism from both players and the press, had a piece of information that has weighed on it since it was released: its budget was supposedly 100 million dollars.
Now that the movie has brought the video game back into focus, this information has spread like wildfire among users. However, it has been Chris Baker, former Interactive Manager of this installment, who has come forward to say that this information is false.
‘It’s crazy how many people are saying ‘how is it possible that this cost so much!’, when obviously it wasn’t like that. It’s not even close,’ he points out on his Twitter account.
From here, the also video game writer comments that all the information starts to emerge from an article by GameSpot about ‘The 20 most expensive video games ever made.’ However, that data is not supported by any statement or anything like that. For this, he has made a long video explaining everything.
Where does it come from then? According to PC Gamer, this information may come from within the videogame itself. Accustomed to breaking the fourth wall, Deadpool himself talks about the budget of the game he is starring in, with an imaginary scoreboard of what it is costing.
Although it is now common to see developments that cost over 100 million dollars, this budget was excessive for almost all productions developed at that time (early 2010s). After all, we are talking about an amount that only productions like Grand Theft Auto could reach, whose fourth installment, from 2008, cost precisely 100 million dollars – and this is confirmed. Therefore, it is confirmed by a game worker that Deadpool never reached this budget.
