The long-awaited second part of Death Stranding is being eagerly anticipated. During the special presentation of Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, Hideo Kojima stated that there is already a release date for the game. A piece of information that, for now, remains with him and his team due to “unforeseen circumstances.”
This is confirmed by the director himself: “the release date is already decided, and I am currently working on it to prepare it […] as we are talking about 2025, it will be released next year. But, due to some unforeseen circumstances, we cannot announce it today.”
On stage, the director encouraged fans to analyze the new trailer in detail: “I have included many things [in the trailer], so I want you to talk about it and find the details.”
Many have speculated that the announcement of its release date could take place during The Game Awards 2024. Some also suggest that Kojima might be waiting to have more information about some of the major releases of 2025. For now, the release of Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled for next year, for example.
However, it would not be unreasonable to wait for the event presented by Geoff Keighley to get more news about its release. The first Death Stranding was announced in December 2022 during the The Game Awards that year.
For now, what we do know is that there will be a Death Stranding movie. Kojima Productions confirmed last year its partnership with the production company A24 to bring the story of Sam Porter Bridges to the big screen. In Kojima’s words, “we are creating a Death Stranding universe that has never been seen before, achievable only through the cinematic medium.”
