TBH: Task Bar Hero only just launched on Steam, and it’s already become one of the platform’s biggest breakout hits in recent memory. At its peak, 546,130 players were in-game at once. The taskbar-based idle RPG gimmick got people’s attention fast. The controversy around it did too.
Across Steam reviews, Reddit threads, and community forums, players say they were handed false permanent “Game Bans,” the public Steam profile label tied to cheating. That blowback has helped push TBH: Task Bar Hero’s user rating down to “Mixed.” Other complaints keep coming up too, especially bugs and shaky servers.
A lot of this seems tied to the game’s aggressive anti-cheat setup and its Steam Marketplace economy, where items can be sold for real money. Nugem Studio and Tesseract Studio say the bans aren’t being issued at random, that third-party tools fall under a two-strike policy, that they’ve expanded their terms to permit wider data collection, and that some bans have been reversed after appeals.
If you’re just looking for a free idle game, TBH: Task Bar Hero is only really worth a shot if you’re okay with the anti-cheat risk as it stands. What looked like a runaway success at first is already starting to read more like a warning sign.
