The trailer for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ has been such a phenomenon that only one other film in history has surpassed it. It’s Marvel, of course.

As much as everyone is convinced that Marvel is on the decline, the truth is that’s not the case with every project. Sure, of course The Marvels flopped, but let’s see who says no to a Spider-Man and Avengers double bill, which have every chance of ending up as the year’s two most popular and highest-grossing films.

Marvel fans, assemble!

503 million views. That’s the incredible figure the trailer for Avengers: Doomsday racked up in its first 24 hours, a figure that would blow anyone’s mind… And that’s not even the most-watched trailer in history in its first 24 hours! That honor, of course, also belongs to Marvel: in March, Spider-Man: Brand New Day got 719 million views, which may hint at its box office haul. Spoiler: it’s going to be gigantic.

But that’s not Marvel’s only good news of the day, because tickets for the film, which were initially only available for premium formats in around 1,000 theaters, have sold so well that it’s already impossible to find tickets for Thursday and Friday of opening weekend, which has led theaters to consider adding extra screenings at Christmas.

It looks like, after years stuck in a supporting role, Marvel is back in a big way. And it only needed its two flagship franchises to do it! The future looks good, but we need to see whether the audience is willing to watch movies about lesser-known teams in the future or whether, instead, it’ll only want to watch Avengers and Spider-Man over and over again. Don’t make me bet, because it’s pretty clear to me.
