Laika has finally unveiled the first full trailer for Wildwood, giving people a proper look at the film before its October 11 premiere at the BFI London Film Festival and its theatrical release on October 23, 2026.
This is Laika’s first movie headed for theaters since 2019’s Missing Link, and its first theatrical return in seven years. Travis Knight, who serves as Laika’s CEO, directs a cast that includes Peyton Elizabeth Lee, Jacob Tremblay, Carey Mulligan, Mahershala Ali, and Angela Bassett. The film adapts Colin Meloy’s 2011 novel Wildwood, which was illustrated by Carson Ellis, and Laika started developing it not long after the book came out. The story sends Prue McKeel into a forbidden forest after crows snatch her baby brother. Once she’s inside, hidden kingdoms, uneasy allies, and dangerous enemies push what starts as a rescue mission into something much bigger.
And it looks like a darker turn for the studio. Wildwood is Laika’s first PG-13 feature, with a rating that cites strong fantasy violence, bloody images, thematic material, suicide-related material, brief partial nudity, and language. It also appears to be the company’s biggest and longest stop-motion production so far: 132 minutes long, built across 136 sets, and populated by 231 practical puppets. If you keep up with Laika, the trailer is worth your time for the sheer scale of it, the amount of visual detail packed into every shot, and the early awards chatter already building around it. The trailer is out now, and Wildwood reaches theaters on October 23, 2026.
