Blizzard is letting Steam users try Diablo 4 for free through September 21. This is temporary access, not a permanent free claim.
The trial gives you the Diablo 4 base game in Sanctuary with every class unlocked, so you can mess around with different builds, get a feel for the combat and progression, run dungeons, and play through the campaign. There are limits, though: the trial stops at level 30, and it doesn’t include Season 15: Hell’s Legacy.
When the trial period ends, access goes away unless you buy the game. If you do want to keep playing, the Standard Edition is discounted from $49.99 to $12.49 until September 24, so the sale runs a few days longer. Blizzard is putting this offer out right after the September 15 launch of Season 15, which, based on player reports, ran into login problems, bugs, and a delay.
If you’ve been curious about Diablo 4, this is a pretty good time to see what it’s like for yourself. Newer players tend to come away liking the campaign, the atmosphere, and the combat loop. People who’ve been around longer are still split on the endgame, the monetization, and where the game seems to be headed, especially if future support leans more on seasonal updates than on major expansions once the already announced roadmap items are out.
The free trial and the discounted version are both available on Steam only.
