Apple’s plans around the Vision Pro are taking shape again. After focusing exclusively on smart glasses planned for 2027 and abandoning the Vision Pro, we now know that the company is continuing the development of a new version of the spatial computer. Apple is working on a new generation of the Vision Pro, according to rumors. This is what we know.
A lighter Vision Pro with several new ideas
According to Mark Gurman at Bloomberg, in the project, codenamed N224, Apple is studying four different concepts. The company had already explored a lighter and more affordable Vision Pro, and this new proposal draws on part of that learning. The main goal is to considerably reduce the weight of the device.
One of the designs, as far as we know, retains the shape of the current Vision Pro, while Apple experiments with a build using plastic, titanium, and other metals. The choice of materials can make an enormous difference in comfort, but there’s more.
According to Gurman, another possibility is that the device’s chips would be joined to the battery in its external unit, following an approach similar to Meta’s. This way, a large part of the weight could be moved out of the headset.
Tim Cook has already defended the Vision Pro’s potential as a platform, and the timeline Gurman has had access to places this new model between late 2028 and early 2029. Apple has time to refine the materials, the chips, and the design before shaping its next generation. A long wait, yes, but also an opportunity for a major generational leap.
