Apple TV+ has officially ordered Neuromancer as a 10-episode series, finally bringing William Gibson’s hugely influential 1984 cyberpunk novel to the screen after years of false starts and abandoned attempts to adapt what plenty of people had written off as an “unfilmable” book.
Graham Roland and J.D. Dillard are creating the show together. Roland will serve as showrunner, and Dillard is set to direct the pilot. You can expect the story of washed-up hacker Case and mirrored-eye assassin Molly as they move through espionage, artificial intelligence, and a digital heist in a novel that gets cited over and over as an influence on everything from The Matrix to modern gaming and anime.
Apple still hasn’t announced any casting or a release date, but the longer format gives this material a much better chance of landing than a two-hour movie ever could, especially when you’re dealing with William Gibson’s dense world-building, virtual landscapes, noir tone, and layers of tech jargon.
If you’ve been into Apple TV+’s sci-fi lineup with Foundation, Silo, Severance, and For All Mankind, this looks like a promising addition. Neuromancer brings a darker, more street-level future to the service, and it could end up as a major new crown jewel.
You’ll be able to watch Neuromancer on Apple TV+, although right now all Apple has confirmed is the series order, with no release date attached yet.
