Only Murders in the Building: the much-anticipated series premieres on Disney+

Only Murders in the Building, Star’s much-anticipated original series, is coming to Disney+ on Tuesday, August 31st. In it, Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez play neighbors who find themselves wrapped up in a murder investigation, bringing the laughs as they hunt down a killer who lives in their apartment building on Manhattan’s Upper West Side.

Still not a Disney+ subscriber? Well, now is the perfect time to join the streaming platform so you never have to miss another premiere. For a limited time, you can take advantage of a special offer: by purchasing an annual Disney+ subscription, you’ll get two free months of series, movies, documentaries and exclusive content.

A building full of secrets

Only Murders in the Building is set in bustling New York City, where Charles (Steve Martin), Oliver (Martin Short) and Mabel (Selena Gomez) are residents of an Upper West Side apartment complex. Virtually strangers, the trio have barely exchanged a word since they’ve been neighbors. But they’ll soon bond over a shared obsession with true crime and unsolved mysteries.

After the bizarre death of resident Tim Kono, the nosy neighbors jump at the chance to pursue their hobby and investigate the lurid event on their own. They come to suspect that Kono’s death was no accident: clearly, there is a murderer on the loose in the building, whose residents once seemed so charming yet boring.

A podcast to solve a crime

The situation is a dream come true for Charles, Oliver and Mabel, who seize the opportunity to become amateur detectives. They’ll break into Kono’s apartment, scour the crime scene and investigate the residents of the building, their suspects, one by one. But to stay on the murderer’s trail, good detectives need to document their case, and this unlikely trio is no exception. However, instead of the usual means, they decide to record their findings by making their own peculiar yet hilarious podcast.

Everyone’s a suspect

As the investigation advances, the true-crime aficionados will discover that Kono’s murder is not just any crime. In fact, they will be slowly immersed in a mystery far greater than they had imagined, causing them to examine the complicated past of their apartment building. But that’s not all. Upon investigating their neighbors and uncovering their lies and bizarre behaviors, the list of suspects will only grow. But since the murderer is among them, watching their every move through the podcast, they’ll have to hurry up and solve the crime if they don’t want to become his or her next victim.

A comedic murder mystery

Created by the great Steve Martin, Only Murders in the Building is inarguably the most eagerly awaited new series on Disney+ this summer. It promises to strike a perfect balance between a comedy and a mystery, keeping viewers on the edge of their seats as the building residents’ secrets are exposed one by one.

Only Murders in the Building has a total of 10 episodes, and three will be dropped on Disney+ on the day of its premiere (August 31st). You won’t have to wait long to watch the rest of the series, because a new episode will be released every week. This is a show you don’t want to miss!

All subscribers to this service could enjoy discovering the origins of one of the most memorable yet mysterious villains from the creators of Mickey Mouse: Cruella de Vil. Starring the great Emma Stone, Cruella is a movie that breaks with the beloved animated film, immersing us in a world of envy, narcissism, revenge and fashion that will keep us glued to the screen.

A villain is born

In the wake of Maleficent and the acclaimed teen trilogy Descendants, Disney has yet again decided to reveal an unknown facet of one of its most beloved villains. In Cruella, we’ll discover the origins of this terrifying character by following the adventures of Estella, an orphan in 1970s London who dreams of making a name for herself in the world of fashion. Her talent will be discovered by Baroness Von Hellman (Emma Thompson), the city’s most important designer, who won’t hesitate to hire her to work in her studio. But behind her glamorous facade, diamonds and expensive clothes, the Baroness hides many secrets and evil plans that will mold the young Estella into the Cruella we all know.

The devil wears Dalmatian

A cross between a villain and a heroine, Cruella takes us on a roller coaster of emotions where envy, revenge and edgy fashion will be the stars. Set to a soundtrack full of ’70s classics (The Rolling Stones, Queen, The Clash, etc.), the film invites us on a thrilling journey in which the clash between Emma Stone and Emma Thompson will transform the charming, intelligent anti-heroine into a malevolent being who is difficult to redeem. As the movie progresses, its humor and innocent comedy scenes will turn dark, pleasantly surprising all who decide to accompany Cruella on her descent into damnation.

A feast for the eyes

Fueled by fashion and design, it comes as no surprise that Cruella’s visuals are among its most applauded aspects. The film does a spectacular job of recreating London of the mid ’70s, where the rise of punk style is palpable in every scene in the film. With glamorous costumes, impossible hairstyles and impeccable makeup, it will portray not only the turbulent world of fashion but also the transformation of our protagonist from a mischievous orphan into a treacherous villain.

Still haven’t subscribed to Disney+? Take advantage of Cruella’s release and get a juicy discount by choosing the annual plan. With it, you’ll have full access to Disney, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, and Star for only 89.90 euros a year, which is 16% cheaper than the monthly plan (8.99 euros a month). In other words, you’ll get two months for free to enjoy the best series and movies of all time. Loki meets The Simpsons on Disney+

Disney+ just dropped The Simpsons: The Good, the Bart, and the Loki, an original short for subscribers of its streaming platform that will see Springfield’s most famous family invade the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Following little Maggie in The Force Awakens from Its Nap, this new The Simpsons crossover leaves the world of Star Wars to take us on a hilarious trip that will even shock the God of Mischief himself. And one thing’s for sure, with Bart along for the ride, laughter is guaranteed.

What is The Simpsons: The Good, the Bart, and the Loki about?

Featuring a promotional poster in which The Simpsons parody the great Avengers: Endgame, the new short begins with Loki being exiled from Asgard once again. Little does this charismatic villain know that in Springfield he’ll meet his match, someone who’s just as much of a trickster as he is: Bart Simpson. Joining forces with him, the God of Mischief will have to take on one of the most powerful (and hilarious) heroes imaginable. You’ll love the fun references to the MCU universe, such as Lisa as Thor, Bart embodying Iron Man, or Skinner’s mom as Black Widow.

Like all good parodies, The Simpsons: The Good, the Bart, and the Loki is a true gift for fans of Matt Groening’s classic animated series and the Marvel universe. It stars Tom Hiddleston voicing Loki, and despite being just about four minutes long (six if you count the credits at the end), it manages to combine the spirit of both franchises. So, Disney+ will put a smile on subscribers’ faces once again with an unprecedented crossover.

Want more? The fun continues on Disney+

If The Good, the Bart, and the Loki leaves you wanting more, don’t worry! As a Disney+ subscriber, you can keep enjoying the adventures of the family from Springfield on Star. The platform has all the episodes, movies, and specials of The Simpsons, such as Maggie Simpson in The Force Awakens from Its NapIn this fun Star Wars crossover, the baby of the family will embark on an epic adventure in a daycare far, far away in search of her pacifier. Tiny Padawans, Sith Lords, and familiar droids come together in this hilarious parody of the George Lucas universe.

Aside from The Simpsons, be sure to check out all the other movies and shows from the Marvel Universe. If you liked this short, don’t miss your chance to watch Loki, the latest MCU series on Disney+ starring the God of Mischief himself. Mysteries, plot twists, and Loki’s caustic wit come together in a story full of time jumps that will have you hooked from the first episode. PRIDE documentary series comes to Disney+

To celebrate Pride Month, Disney+ has released the acclaimed documentary series PRIDE as an exclusive Star Original. In it, six directors chronicle the struggle for LGBTQ+ civil rights in America spanning the 1950s to the 1990s. Both heartbreaking and inspiring, their stories reveal the need for tolerance and respect for diversity.

Produced by Killer Films and VICE Studios, PRIDE explores true stories told by some of its renowned directors over the course of six episodes. They range from the persecution of homosexuals in the 1950s – the so-called Lavender Scare – promoted by Senator Joseph McCarthy to the culture wars of the 1990s and the queer legacy.

Through recordings, personal testimonies and interviews, PRIDE reveals how the liberation movement and Pride were born, standing out as an exceptional docuseries. In fact, episode three features the first Gay Pride march, a historic event in the 1970s. Even though it’s a well-established celebration today, considered absolutely mainstream, it was a heroic act at the time, defying the backward thinking of the era.

But PRIDE doesn’t just offer an honest, heartwrenching view of the struggles and advancement of the LGBTQ+ movement in America over the course of 40 years. It also transmits the message that the battle isn’t over. While members of this community have begun to be recognized in American society, there’s still a lot of work to be done.

Disney+ and its Star platform have joined in celebrating Pride Month with this six-part gem, available now to all Disney+ subscribers. PRIDE is a documentary of great historical value, reminding us of the imperative need to update society’s old-fashioned values and usher in an era of tolerance, inclusion and acceptance of diversity.

Luca: Pixar’s refreshingly adorable film on Disney+

Who doesn’t fondly remember that summer when, between ice cream, laughter and the occasional tear, when you spent some of the happiest days of your childhood? With this premise comes Luca, the new Disney Pixar film that, as of June 18, is available to Disney+ subscribers. In it you’ll travel to Porto Rosso, a tiny fishing village on the coast of Italy where Luca and Alberto will have the greatest adventure of their lives… which comes as no surprise because these two kids are actually sea monsters!

A beautiful story of friendship and acceptance

Clearly reminiscent of The Little Mermaid with a touch of Pippi Longstocking, Luca is a lovely tale where being different is no reason to hide, but a wonderful motive to teach the world about the beauty of diversity. With all the magic of Disney Pixar, the film introduces us to Luca, a tiny sea monster who’s thirsty to discover what lies outside of the water. However, his overprotective parents won’t approve of any of the little monster’s attempts to explore the surface.

After befriending the crazy Alberto, Luca will discover how his species are capable of transforming into humans when not in contact with the water. With dreams of being free and traveling the world on a Vespa, the two kids will run away to Porto Rosso, a small fishing village terrified by the ancient legends about sea monsters. Like two fish out of water, literally, Luca and Alberto will have the summer of their lives with Giulia, a young girl considered strange by the rest of the children of the town.

Light and refreshing with a valuable message

Disney Pixar makes a splash once again with a beautiful, entertaining story that transmits a truly important message for viewers young and old: it’s okay to be different. Now that summer vacation is here, Luca is a must-see movie that you can enjoy with the little ones at home. Don’t miss it!

Loki: The new Marvel series finally debuts on Disney+

He’s Machiavellian, manipulative and irresistibly snarky. The God of Mischief has arrived on Disney+ in Loki, the latest Marvel series that has come storming in, ready to thrill fans of the MCU yet again.

Released on June 9th, Loki follows the acclaimed WandaVision and the frenetic The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, giving us a fresh, original show that will surprise even experts of the superhero franchise. Who could have imagined Thor’s egomaniacal stepbrother cooperating with the Time-Keepers? Loki has come to surprise us… and he more than succeeds.

From God of Mischief to Prisoner of Time

The series starts in 2012, right when Loki (Tom Hiddlestone) manages to escape after picking up the Tesseract in Avengers: Endgame. Little could he imagine that his final trick would go awry seconds later when he fell prisoner of the Time Variance Authority (TVA), an agency tasked with preserving the Sacred Timeline and preventing any changes from threatening the course of history. And, as we’ll learn in the first episode, there are beings called Variants whose actions generate parallel timelines with the potential to end reality as we know it.

Preserving the Sacred Timeline

Stripped of his greatness – but with his ego and sharp tongue intact – Loki will be forced to collaborate with Mobius M. Mobius (Owen Wilson), an agent of the Time Variance Authority tasked with capturing high-level Variants. They’ll begin a relationship of convenience with all the dynamics of the greatest buddy movies, where Mobius’ rational mind and Loki’s twisted intelligence will unite to hunt down the most dangerous Variant. But teaming up with the God of Mischief isn’t easy, and the shadow of betrayal will loom at all times, but… who’s really manipulating whom?

How many episodes does Loki have?

Loki has a total of 6 episodes of 45-51 minutes that you can watch on the following days:

Episode 1: June 9th.

Episode 2: June 16th.

Episode 3: June 23rd.

Episode 4: June 30th.

Episode 5: July 7th.

Episode 6: July 14th.

A must-see series for Marvel fans

Refreshing, entertaining and hilarious, Loki has arrived on Disney+ promising to be the best Marvel series yet. While it’s still too soon to know what direction the plot will take, we like what we’ve seen so far… a lot. Don’t miss the charismatic God of Mischief’s adventures through time!

How to enable dark mode on the most popular messaging apps

Apps are constantly being updated, and that comes as no surprise. They receive all sorts of upgrades and features to respond to the changing times and needs, and one of them is certainly night mode. Anyone who’s even slightly familiar with the world of technology knows that one of biggest trends is having your entire interface in a dark tone instead of bright white. If you want to make this change too, read on to find out how to enable dark mode on the most popular messaging apps.

Why dark mode?

Before we get down to business, let’s quickly go over what dark mode is and what it’s for exactly. First of all, dark mode is simply a style change that makes an app’s entire interface dark instead of light. That’s all, plain and simple. However, it does have “secondary” advantages that we can’t overlook.

The first is that it reduces damage to your eyes. The glare from your white screen affects your eyes quite a bit, causing symptoms like eyestrain, feeling like your eyes are “burning” (because they’re dry), or headaches. Enabling this mode will reduce these harmful effects (they’ll still be there, but to a lesser extent). It also improves visibility in low-light situations (with a black background and white text, it’s easier to see).

The second advantage is extended battery life. Dark mode has been proven to make your battery last a bit longer. We’re not talking about a huge change, but it does get you a few more minutes. That may not sound like a big deal, but if you add up those minutes each week, the number keeps growing. Who knows? After a month you may have gained three or four hours of extra battery life, which is pretty decent.

Dark mode for your operating system

Now that we’ve explained the purpose of dark mode, let’s talk about how to enable it from your operating system. “Hey, wait a minute, I don’t want it for my operating system, but for a specific app,” you might be thinking. Well, unfortunately, many apps don’t include “night mode,” so it has to be enabled in your operating system’s settings (like WhatsApp on iOS, for example).

Starting with Android, Google’s operating system has natively configured night mode in several Android versions, but let’s talk about the latest one, Android 10. It’s easy to activate: tap “Settings,” then “Display,” then “Dark mode.” As we mentioned before, depending on your Android version and the manufacturer’s customization layer, the option could be found elsewhere, but it’s definitely there.

iPhone is easier, because as long as your device is updated with the latest iOS version, night mode will appear under settings. Just tap the “Settings” icon and look for “Display and Brightness.” Then the choice is pretty straightforward: “Light/Dark.” Select “Dark,” save the setting and that’s it! From now on, iOS (and many of your apps) will appear in that dark tone.

WhatsApp

Let’s start with the world’s number-one messaging platform, an app that no smartphone can do without: WhatsApp. This Facebook-owned tool is one of the apps that have taken the longest to gain dark mode. Why? Nobody knows, and while the competition was quick to roll it out, WhatsApp really dragged its feet. But now it’s finally here.

To activate dark mode, just tap “Settings” in the app and look for the “Chats” tab. There, tap “Theme.” A window will pop up with some very straightforward options: “Choose theme: System default, Light or Dark.” Tap “Dark” and “OK,” and watch all the changes appear like magic.

On iPhone, dark mode is activated by default from iOS. So simply follow the steps we described above to enable it from your operating system.

Telegram

Now let’s talk about WhatsApp’s main rival, an app whose popularity just keeps growing: Telegram. This tool has many more functions than WhatsApp, and its ever-increasing number of users should give Facebook’s app reason to worry. This is the case because it understands the market better than anyone, and dark mode is a perfect example of this

In Telegram, this mode has been activated for some time (we could even say it was one of the first to offer it). To enable night mode on Telegram, just tap your profile picture and then “Settings.” Then look for “Chat Settings/Appearance,” a section that lists every detail imaginable, from text size to color. But there’s one setting that leaves no room for doubt: “Auto-Night Mode.” You can also personalize parameters such as brightness or when you would like Auto-Night Mode to be activated. Pretty neat, huh?

Facebook Messenger

Many people think of this messaging service as second-tier, or one that nobody uses anymore. But actually, Facebook Messenger continues to build an online following, especially in the United States. It’s having an increasing impact in Spain, so logically we can’t overlook its dark mode.

As is the case with WhatsApp, dark mode becomes the default setting on Facebook Messenger if we enable it through our operating system. That said, you might get an error message (in fact, it’s pretty normal). If this happens, there’s an alternative way to enable dark mode. All you have to do is open the messaging app and tap on your profile picture. A toggle will appear that leaves no room for doubt: “Dark mode.” Your options will include “Enable,” “Disable” and “Use system configuration” (which refers to your smartphone operating system, but if you get an error message, this probably won’t appear). Select “Enable,” and ta-da: night-mode activation problems solved! Not too hard, is it?

Instagram

“But Instagram isn’t a messaging service!”, you must be thinking. Well, it “didn’t used to be” a messaging service, but now it most certainly is. Facebook’s popular social media platform – let’s not forget that it owns Instagram – has improved its direct messaging feature, which is now a section of the app. In fact, it wasn’t until this year, 2020, that it finally introduced a chat feature for the PC version (now you can chat with your friends directly from your browser, a great feature).

To activate dark mode, you don’t need to change the settings –  just enable the mode through your operating system. But there is a little “trick.” Dark mode only works on iOS 13 and later versions and on Android 10 and later. So if Instagram doesn’t switch to dark mode after you enable it on your operating system, check two things: 1) that your phone’s firmware is updated to the latest version (at least the ones mentioned above) and 2) that your Instagram app is also updated to the latest version. It’s that simple!

Like Instagram, our Twitter inbox is overflowing with direct messages, and we’re not ashamed to admit that we use this platform to communicate with many friends, acquaintances and work contacts (sometimes we don’t want to bother people on WhatsApp or Telegram and prefer to message them here, since there are no character limits like there were a few years ago).

Activating dark mode is pretty simple on both Android and iPhone. First of all, make sure you have the latest version of the Twitter app, or this option won’t appear. Then tap your profile picture and “Settings and privacy,” the section where all the nuts and bolts of Twitter appear. Here, tap “Display and sound” and look for the “Dark mode” toggle.

Twitter’s night mode is the most advanced one we’ve seen on an app – no joke! It not only enables a dark tone, but also includes several subfields to make the most of it. For example, you can activate the basic setting, but also choose whether you want it really dark (Lights Out) or only a bit lighter (Dim). As if that were not enough, you can use device settings. In other words, the app enables “Lights Out” or “Dim” depending on how your operating system and its night mode are configured (you let the smartphone do everything). That’s how advanced this mode is on Twitter.

Skype

It may have lost some importance in recent years, but nobody can overlook Skype as a messenger service. It was the undeniable leader for video calling in its day, and we think it’s still a valid option.

To enable night mode on Skype, be sure to update the program to its latest version. Next, select your profile picture, go to “Settings” at the bottom, and select “Appearance.” Finally, go to “Modes,” where you’ll find three options: “Light,” “Dark,” or “Use system setting.” Again, if your operating system has night mode enabled, it should appear on Skype by default. Otherwise, just tap on “Dark” and ta-da.

Discord

Last but certainly not least is the hottest messaging app on the market today, especially among gamers: Discord. This tool also has dark mode as an option that can be enabled. Simply tap your profile picture and look for the “Appearance” tab. There you’ll see “Theme,” and again, three options: “Light,” “Dark” and “Automatic.” The last setting is for the operating system, so if you have it enabled there, it will appear by default. Otherwise, just select “Dark” and problem solved.

And that’s our tutorial on how to “go dark” on the most popular apps from WhatsApp to Discord, one of the latest platforms to make a splash in the messaging services market. And be sure to check out this mode on the social media platforms we’ve listed with integrated chat services. Remember that developers are working every day to roll out dark mode on most services. If you still don’t have it and want to reduce eyestrain, maybe it’s time to tinker with your operating system, just in case…
