Marvel Studios has updated Avengers: Endgame with the Encore cut, and this new version folds in a Doctor Doom scene that points straight at the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Avengers: Doomsday.
The added sequence shows Doctor Doom tracking down Bruce Banner, who’s alone underground in a high-security bunker. He tells Banner he’s there to “collect” him. Given how unstable Bruce has been since that brutal Hulk regression in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and the fact that he’s working on a gamma suppressor, the whole thing reads less like a pitch and more like a kidnapping. It also suggests Hulk could end up controlled, twisted, or shoved toward some kind of evil Hulk, maybe even something close to a Maestro-style role.
That makes sense for Doom. He’d want Hulk for the raw power, but he’d also want Bruce Banner for the brain behind it. Other reported additions push the setup even further: Loki appears in a Time Variance Authority, or TVA, uniform to visit Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter; TVA personnel witness multiversal collapse and incursions; and the ending now flashes Doctor Doom forging his mask, with the hammer-on-metal beat playing like a Stark-shaped echo.
If you’ve been keeping up with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this Encore cut looks like one to pick up, especially since reports say the Russo Brothers consider it required viewing before Doomsday. Bruce Banner’s part in all this may even carry forward into Secret Wars, and where he ends up still isn’t clear.
