Cowboys & Aliens hits Netflix on October 1. Jon Favreau directed the 2011 movie, which throws a Western and an alien-invasion thriller into the same story. If Fallout turned you into a Walton Goggins fan, or reminded you how good he is, this one makes sense as your next watch. It’s loud, action-heavy, and a little stranger than the usual franchise playbook.
Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, Olivia Wilde, and Paul Dano round out the cast. The movie arrives as part of Netflix’s early October lineup refresh, alongside the Jason Bourne films, 8 Mile, Dallas Buyers Club, Split, and The Devil Wears Prada.
So if you’re stuck waiting for Fallout to come back, Cowboys & Aliens is a solid pick for the gap.
The film opened on July 29, 2011, and went on to make $174.8 million worldwide. It wasn’t one of the era’s defining blockbusters, but people have kept coming back to it for the oddball genre mix and the pull of a cast like this.
Goggins, meanwhile, is in the middle of a very good stretch. He played the Ghoul in Fallout, then picked up even more attention, along with an Emmy nomination, for The White Lotus season 3. That comes as game adaptations such as The Last of Us, Arcane, and Fallout keep feeding the streaming conversation. And if you’re looking further ahead, he’s also attached to Mister in 2027 and Hexed on November 25, 2026.
