Game of Thrones may have won a few Emmy awards, but the Golden Globe awards have always evaded the series. Somehow, against many odds, the spinoff series, House of the Dragon, won the award for Best Drama Series. The executive producer was so shocked, as he arrived underdressed at the event with the expectation of not winning.
Miguel Sapochnik rose to the stage, humbled that the new show had won the award for its debut season. It aired late in October on HBO, running for ten episodes. Based on the fact that it beat the likes of Severance, viewers must have really enjoyed what the show brought to the table. In this case, what it brought to the screen.
To be really honest, I couldn’t make it past season five of Game of Thrones, and this coming from a fantasy fan and author. While many friends recommended it to me, it was just too drawn out. Then I heard about the ending, and I lost all interest completely. Perhaps House of Dragons will interest me more, considering that it’s now won an award.

As you can see from the Twitter video above, the executive producer really appreciated the Golden Globe award. If you haven’t seen the show yet, the story takes place about two centuries before the main storyline in GOT. More specifically, it deals with the Targaryen kingdom and their initial attempt at taking the Iron Throne.
I made a resolution to read more this year, so perhaps I should start with the book series that gave rise to the television show. Until then, it will be fascinating to see why House of Dragons won the Golden Globe and not Game of Thrones.
