The global powerhouse of interactive entertainment, Electronic Arts, has recently entered into a partnership with Middle-earth Enterprises, a division of the Saul Zaentz Company. With a name like Middle-earth Enterprises, it comes as no surprise that this partnership is to result in a brand new LOTR-themed free-to-play mobile game, Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-Earth.
The new game by EA and Middle-Earth Enterprises intends to teleport long-time and new fans alike into the incomparable worlds, adventures, and fantasies of J.R.R. Tolkien’s critically acclaimed Lord of the Rings literary franchise; all from their mobile devices. The game, which is currently still in early development, is being described as a social-competitive experience with classic strategy game mechanics.
Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-earth is Electronic Arts’ latest addition to its ever-expanding retinue of mobile gaming, and the company aims to reach even more players worldwide when the game is released. In a recent statement, Malachi Boyle, the Vice President of Electronic Arts’ Mobile RPG division, said: ‘We are incredibly excited to partner with The Saul Zaentz Company and Middle-earth Enterprises on the next generation of mobile role-playing games.
The team is filled with fans of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit and each day they bring their tremendous passion and talents together to deliver an authentic experience for players. The combination of high-fidelity graphics, cinematic animations, and stylized art immerses players in the fantasy of Middle-earth where they’ll go head-to-head with their favorite characters.’
Frederica Drotos, Middle-earth Enterprises’ Chief Brand & Licensing Officer, echoed EA’s sentiments: ‘We are thrilled to be working with EA once again, this time to bring a mobile game solely inspired by Middle-earth as described in the literary works of J.R.R. Tolkien to its fans. It’s an honor to work with the talented Capital Games team whose knowledge and love of the lore is palpable throughout.’
Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-earth is set to feature turn-based combat mechanics, immersive storytelling, a wide array of LOTR and The Hobbit characters, and interactive collection systems. The new game marks a momentous occasion as it’s the first time EA has tried their hand at a mobile game developed solely by inspiration from the locations, storylines, lore, and characters of the LOTR literary franchise. The game is rumored to be heading into limited beta testing sometime this summer.
In other news from EA, the company recently announced the Sims 4 roadmap for May/ June. The prevailing opinion is that we’re finally getting werewolves, but the team is expected to stay tight-lipped on the issue until the new packs are released.
