Microsoft Teams will finally fix one of its biggest annoyances

Microsoft Teams is preparing to introduce a long-awaited feature that could drastically improve the quality of virtual meetings. Noise suppression for phone participants is officially in development, targeting one of the platform’s most disruptive issues: background noise during calls.

Noise suppression will reduce call disruptions for everyone

The new update will automatically eliminate background sounds like traffic or keyboard typing for users dialing into a meeting via phone (PSTN). This aims to improve meeting clarity and reduce the kind of interruptions that have long frustrated participants.

Microsoft says the feature will enhance the experience for all users, not just those on the phone, by minimizing distractions that can derail conversations or make it difficult to follow key points. Once rolled out, it’s expected to provide consistent benefits across platforms, including Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, Surface devices, and Teams on Web.

Scheduled to arrive in September 2025

Currently listed as “in development” on the Microsoft 365 roadmap, the feature is scheduled to begin rolling out globally in September 2025, with no action needed from users to activate it. The suppression system will run automatically in the background once implemented.

The announcement follows a series of recent enhancements to Teams, including co-presenting controls for slide decks and real-time text (RTT) capabilities for accessibility. These updates underline Microsoft’s strategy to make Teams more reliable and user-friendly across all devices and connection types.

By tackling one of the most common user complaints head-on, Microsoft Teams positions itself as a stronger contender in the competitive world of collaboration tools, especially for hybrid and mobile workforces.
