Netflix has pulled the plug on Ransom Canyon less than two months after Season 2 debuted on July 23, 2026. That closes the romantic neo-Western after two seasons, and it also settles one point of confusion: Ransom Canyon wasn’t scrapped before Season 2 ever got to air.
Season 2 just didn’t match the first run. Netflix’s own viewership numbers show it opened with 4.1 million views, down from 7.2 million for Season 1, which works out to a drop of about 43%. It also spent three weeks in Netflix’s global top 10 instead of four, and for a show with costly production and established lead actors, that likely made the math harder to defend.
Based on Jodi Thomas’s books, Ransom Canyon starred Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly and centered on three ranching families in Texas Hill Country. Netflix had positioned it as its answer to Yellowstone, with a bit of Virgin River in the mix, but the lowered confidence was already showing. The episode order was trimmed from 10 to 8, and the show went through a creative reset that included changes to the supporting cast.
So if you were waiting on Season 3, those planned story lines are now stuck where they are. Ellie’s love triangle, Levi’s bigger role, and the brothers’ relationship won’t get resolved. New Mexico loses the production work too, work that had been tied to more than 700 local hires, including about 380 crew members, 40 principal actors, and roughly 300 background performers.
Both seasons are still streaming on Netflix.
