This coming Sunday, October 15, will mark a milestone in streaming television with the simultaneous premiere of the series Mar afuera on Disney+ and Atresplayer. This unprecedented event is made possible by a historic agreement between both platforms that will allow Disney+ subscribers to access much of Atresplayer’s content at no additional cost. This collaboration represents a significant advancement in the way local productions are distributed in the streaming landscape.
The Sea Inside, But for Outside
Mar afuera is an adaptation of the Italian series Mare fuori and tells the complex story of two inmates, played by Gabriel Guevara and Hugo Welzel, in a juvenile detention center. The plot explores their daily struggles as they face threats from the gang Los Pajaritos while trying to maintain hope for an uncertain future. It consists of eight episodes, promising an intense and emotional narrative centered on the lives of young people in conflict with the law.
This premiere is considered special not only for its innovative format but also for the diverse cast that includes actors like Miguel Barraga, Nekane Otxoa, La Imagen, and many more. The direction is in charge of Norberto López Amado and Rómulo Aguillaume, with a script that features contributions from Jelen Morales, Sara Cano, Paula Fabra, and Natxo López.
The agreement between Disney+ and Atresmedia is not limited to Mar afuera, as it also includes other content such as Tu cara me suena and the series La encrucijada and Sueños de libertad.
