Robert Pattinson has pretty much poured cold water on the idea of his Batman folding into James Gunn’s DC Universe, saying it would be “kind of tough” to make his Bruce Wayne fit there, and in doing so he’s also made DC’s Batman setup a lot clearer. Pattinson’s point is that Matt Reeves’ The Batman movies have such a distinct tone and such a fully built-out style of their own that this version of the character feels locked to that world. That lines up with DC’s plan all along: Reeves’ darker, more grounded Batman stays separate, under the Elseworlds banner.
Gunn has said he’s thought about it, but there’s still nothing that suggests a crossover is seriously moving forward. DC seems intent on keeping both lanes open, a shared universe on one side and standalone projects on the other.
At the same time, DC is putting together a different Batman for its main universe in The Brave and the Bold, with Andy Muschietti directing and Christina Hodson writing. That movie is set to focus on Bruce Wayne and Damian Wayne as Robin.
There’s still no actor and no release date, and Creature Commandos already hinted at a more seasoned Batman who doesn’t look anything like Pattinson’s version. So right now the setup looks pretty straightforward: one Batman exists inside the DCU with characters like Superman and Supergirl, and another lives in Matt Reeves’ noir-heavy corner of Gotham.
If you were still holding out hope for a crossover, this seems to be the clearest sign yet that Reeves’ Gotham is staying where it is.
Next up, Pattinson is expected back in The Batman – Part II on February 18, 2028, after the movie slipped from its original 2025 date. Pattinson has described the script as ambitious, dense, and a “real left turn.”
