SCS Software, the developer behind American Truck Simulator, has announced a new project titled Road Trip that will allow players to drive passenger cars such as pickups and sports cars, in addition to trucks. This initiative aims to diversify the gaming experience, offering the opportunity to explore the vast world of the simulator in a more relaxed way, without the pressure of cargo deliveries, which traditionally defines the gameplay of the title.
Traveling across the US without leaving your home
The announcement was made on March 19 through a brief teaser video that generated speculation within the community. Almost a month later, the company revealed details about Road Trip, which is in the early stages of development. In their statement, the developers expressed their ambition to expand the ways players interact with the game world, suggesting that this new approach will appeal to both veterans and new users.
In addition to the ability to drive a variety of vehicles, SCS Software is considering implementing new gameplay mechanics, such as an exploration diary. This feature will allow players to unlock themed postcards as they discover various parts of the map, which represents a 1:20 scale of the real United States. This recreation has been praised for its attention to detail and the authentic feel of a road trip.
It is important to highlight that although Road Trip introduces new gameplay dynamics, SCS will not abandon its focus on trucks, as they have formed a team dedicated exclusively to this project. Fans of American Truck Simulator can expect an experience that, despite straying into the unconventional, still pays homage to its roots.
