If you’ve ever thought that the Marvel Universe should hit the brakes, know that at the House of Ideas, they are not inclined to do so. In fact, Ryan Coogler, acclaimed screenwriter and director, is currently working on the script for Black Panther 3, although it is known that the film will take time to hit the big screen. However, the universe of Wakanda continues to expand with the arrival of the animated anthology Eyes of Wakanda, which will air this year.
For Wakanda!
Directed by Todd Harris, a Black Panther story artist, Eyes of Wakanda will explore the rich history of this fictional African nation over thousands of years. Unlike most Marvel animated shows, this series is canon within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), which opens up the possibility of introducing new characters and concepts that could appear in future projects.
One of the main additions could be the Hatut Zaraze, a group of Wakandan secret agents who work in the shadows to protect the secrets of their country. The series will focus on their quest for stolen artifacts and features a revamped version of Iron Fist, moving away from the negative perception that surrounded the character in his previous series. Eyes of Wakanda will consist of four 30-minute episodes, each dedicated to an agent in different times and situations.
The previous version of Iron Fist, played by Finn Jones, received harsh criticism, particularly regarding issues of cultural appropriation. With the new approach proposed by Eyes of Wakanda, it is expected that this reinvention of the character will change the narrative and potentially introduce the new superhero, Lin Lie, who has already gained relevance in the comics.
In a world where Marvel continues to solidify its narrative arcs, Eyes of Wakanda not only seeks to fill the gap until the arrival of Black Panther 3, but also to establish new and intriguing threads that could intertwine within the MCU, making it a significant installment for fans.
