The popular video game series Life is Strange will be adapted into a television series by Amazon MGM Studios, but without the involvement of the original creative team from the game, which has sparked controversy among fans. Christian Divine, the game’s writer, expressed his discontent on social media, highlighting that the only ones not involved are the creators. His post has generated mixed reactions among followers, who feel disappointed by the absence of the original team, although there is also curiosity about the adaptation due to the reputation of the lead writer.
No one adapts a a story as well as the one who has seen it born
Charlie Covell, known for her work on The End of the F***ing World, is the writer and executive producer of the series. In a statement, Covell said it is a great honor to adapt Life is Strange and that she is excited to share the story of Max and Chloe with a new audience. The production includes Square Enix, Story Kitchen, and Margot Robbie’s production banner, LuckyChap.
The narrative will follow Max, a photography student who discovers her ability to rewind time while trying to save her best friend, Chloe. Together, they delve into the investigation of the mysterious disappearance of a classmate, which will lead them to uncover dark secrets of their city and make decisions that will change their lives forever. The series reportedly still does not have a release date.
Despite the general concern over the lack of original creators, Prime Video has shown expertise in adapting video game properties to success, as seen in its recent work with Fallout and the upcoming Tomb Raider project. The expectation for Life is Strange remains, although with reservations among fans of the game. However, it remains to be seen how this new adaptation will be executed and the direction the series will take.
