Brandon Cronenberg, son of the acclaimed director David Cronenberg, continues to forge his own path in the film industry, particularly standing out in the horror genre. His upcoming project, titled Dragons, is a science fiction film that has already secured funding and promises to explore a near future where ancient organic organisms roam the galaxy, generating a black market based on a highly profitable drug extracted from their alien biochemistry.
A story with clear classical inspirations
The story follows a captain and her crew in the hunt for these space dragons, evoking elements of Moby Dick but set in space. The script is written by Dan Abnett, known for his work in the Warhammer universe and in the video game Alien: Isolation. His experience could provide an effective approach to space horror, suggesting that genre fans have reasons to feel intrigued.
Although Brandon Cronenberg’s films often have low budgets, which can limit the visual narrative, it also represents an opportunity to innovate in his artistic style. It is a challenge that the filmmaker has managed well in his previous works, such as Possessor or Infinity Pool. What is to come with Dragons could take his vision to new creative heights.
In addition to this new project, the Alien universe continues to expand. A new movie and a series called Alien: Earth are being developed, which is set to be released next summer. The premiere of Predator: Badlands is also scheduled for the end of this year, keeping interest in the narratives of the science fiction and horror genre alive.
