Roblox Corporation has announced the implementation of two new types of accounts aimed at young users: Roblox Kids, for children aged 5 to 8, and Roblox Select, for those aged 9 to 15. These new accounts will come with limitations on communication and access to certain content, with the aim of improving safety on the platform, amid growing concerns from parents about bullying and their children’s vulnerability in virtual environments.
A platform that is the predator’s fantasy
In addition, the company will expand parental control tools, allowing parents to manage more aspects of their children’s accounts, such as blocking specific games and controlling direct chat settings. Starting April 30, 2026, a subscription called Roblox Plus will be introduced, offering discounts, access to free private servers, and the ability to trade avatar items, replacing the current Roblox Premium system.
Roblox has faced criticism due to its history of issues with child harassment and the involvement of predators on its platform since 2018. Investigations have revealed that several arrests have taken place following contact from individuals with bad intentions through the game. In fact, California and Spain have filed lawsuits against the company for its alleged failure to protect minors, which could result in million-dollar fines.
Despite these legal and ethical challenges, Roblox remains one of the most popular gaming platforms, accumulating 10.250 million hours of gameplay per month, surpassing giants like PlayStation and Steam. Although the company has expressed its intention to improve moderation and child safety on its platform, there are still doubts about the effectiveness of these new measures and the ability of predators to circumvent the implemented restrictions.
