Recently, Bloober Team, the video game development studio known for its work on the remake of Silent Hill 2 and The Medium, unveiled a teaser for a new unannounced project that has generated speculation in the gamer community. The trailer, which shows an image of a rose and an enigmatic message that reads “some things never leave the walls. They just learn to wait,” has led some to think it could be a remake of the controversial cult game Rule of Rose, released in 2006.
It’s not Rule of Rose, but it’s something
However, the CEO of Bloober Team, Piotr Babieno, clarified on LinkedIn that the teaser is not related to a remake of Rule of Rose. In response to an article suggesting this theory, Babieno wrote: “Good guess, but no,” thus confirming that the announcement has a different purpose.
Rule of Rose has become an iconic title of its time, despite its mixed reviews, which range from low scores in some critiques to the formation of a cult following. The game, set in a British orphanage, was the subject of intense controversy, leading to its censorship in the UK and Australia due to rumors about sadomasochistic content. Although it does not contain such material, public perception severely damaged its launch.
In 2021, Onion Games, the developer behind titles like Moon and Stray Children, expressed interest in re-releasing Rule of Rose on modern consoles; however, the scarcity of copies in the secondary market has led to exorbitant prices, with copies rarely selling for less than €300. In this context, the possible revelation from Bloober Team remains a mystery that intrigues video game fans and horror lovers.
