The director of Battlestate Games, Nikita Buyanov, has shared his vision for the upcoming sci-fi shooter, Fragmentary Order, emphasizing that he will not seek to attract casual audiences like Arc Raiders does. Unlike the latter, which is defined as a “extraction shooter for casual players,” Buyanov claims that his focus is on creating “the most painful, challenging, and rewarding experience” possible. This statement suggests a return to what many players have come to associate with Escape from Tarkov, where the highs and lows of experiences are part of the game’s appeal.
A hardcore game
Buyanov emphasizes that his goal is to simulate a harsher reality and focus on survival, which means that players must be prepared to face dynamic events that will test their skills and strategy. Although the game will favor PvP, Buyanov clarifies that “it will not force people to fight,” but it is inevitable that confrontations will arise.
In addition, the development of Fragmentary Order will include elements of cooperation, even if it is not the main intention of the game. In this regard, Buyanov mentions that future updates will enrich the gameplay mechanics, allowing players to work together to find shelter and survive in a hostile environment. This contrasts with the more aggressive approach taken by Marathon, which has been designed to encourage intense PvP gameplay.
On the other hand, in the realm of Arc Raiders, the developer Embark has decided to extend the time to complete its challenges, increasing the window from 5 days to 13, allowing players greater flexibility. This decision seems to bring relief to the community, which appreciates the extra time to enjoy the game without the pressure of hastily meeting objectives.
