Crystal Dynamics has announced that the next installment in the iconic Tomb Raider series, titled Catalyst, will be the biggest to date and is set to launch in 2027. The studio head, Scot Amos, stated that this new adventure is designed to be accessible to new players, who will not need to know the complicated story of Lara Croft to enjoy the game. “We have designed *Catalyst* so that players can jump right in and experience the adventure from start to finish, without any ‘homework’”, emphasized Amos.

The plot of Catalyst will be set in a new country for the protagonist, specifically in northern India. Amos mentioned that the environment will feature vast and varied landscapes that invite exploration. This installment promises to provide a complete experience that will captivate both long-time fans and those who are approaching the saga for the first time.
Additionally, during the Game Awards 2025, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis was presented, a remake of the original game that will be released in 2026. Although this remake returns to the roots of the franchise, Catalyst is chronologically set after all previous titles, marking a key point in Lara Croft’s career. “It’s one of those moments where this is the farthest point in Lara’s story”, explained Amos, ensuring that the experience will be new and refreshing for all players.
With Catalyst, Crystal Dynamics is showing ambition, promising that this will be the most extensive delivery ever created. “We are super excited to bring this experience to everyone”, concluded Amos. With each new announcement, the anticipation for the future of the Tomb Raider saga continues to grow, and it is shaping up to be a milestone in the world of video games.
