In an unexpected move, Tower of Fantasy has launched its new special server, the Warp Server, on November 25, seeking to revitalize a title that has faced a notable decline in its popularity. This server marks a significant change by stripping away the gacha mechanics that have been a key element of the game since its launch. Instead of relying on chance to acquire characters and weapons, players will now be able to obtain them through a direct farming system, reminiscent of traditional MMOs.
Things are not going well at Hotta Studio
Hotta Studio, the game’s developer, describes this initiative as “a revolution within the game,” emphasizing a focus on classic progression and a deeper economic system. The Warp Server will implement a user-to-user buying and selling system and auctions, allowing for greater trade and social interaction, unlike the monetized model present in the base game.
One of the most striking features of the Warp Server is its seasonal structure, which promises to regularly refresh the content and the available gear, introducing a system of reverse ‘item level creep’. This means that, instead of a gradual increase in gear power with each expansion, the stats could reset at the beginning of each season, introducing an element of strategy and planning for players.
This release comes in a complicated context for Tower of Fantasy, especially after the transition of publisher from Tencent to Perfect World. This situation has led to the deletion of player accounts that did not migrate in time, resulting in a significant increase in negative reviews from the community. The lack of communication from the studio has exacerbated these problems.
It remains to be seen whether the Warp Server will be able to attract both new players and those who have distanced themselves due to recent circumstances. Hoping to offer a more balanced and personalized experience, this new server could be the key to the revitalization that Tower of Fantasy has been seeking.
