Since its premiere in December 2019, Marriage Story has established itself as one of the best movies on Netflix, garnering six Oscar nominations and revitalizing the career of its director, Noah Baumbach. The film, known not only for its emotional depth and outstanding performances by Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson, has also become famous for viral memes that have circulated on social media, especially one in which Driver hits the wall.
Very intense actions for animals
However, recently, the movie has gained relevance for an unusual reason. A report from the Wall Street Journal reveals that the U.S. Department of Agriculture is using one of the most intense scenes from Marriage Story as part of a method to scare wolves and protect livestock on farms. The scene, where Driver and Johansson yell at each other in the midst of a heated argument, is mixed with other sounds, such as fireworks and rock music, to create an intimidating atmosphere.
This tactic has been tested in southern Oregon, where after the predation of eleven cows over a period of 20 days, this sound mix was implemented. The results have been remarkable, as the number of wolf attacks decreased drastically from 11 to only 2 in three months. A member of the Department of Agriculture explained that the strategy aims for wolves to associate human presence with “evil.”
For the moment, no comments have been received from Noah Baumbach, Adam Driver, or Scarlett Johansson regarding their new role as professional wolf scareers. What is certain is that their work has found an unconventional and effective use in wildlife management in the United States.
