The world of video games is witnessing a resurgence in FBC: Firebreak, the cooperative shooter from Remedy Entertainment that, after going through difficult times, has received substantial improvements in its recent updates. Since its launch, the game was compared to the popular Left 4 Dead saga, but its initial reception did not meet players’ expectations due to a lack of content and a progression system that proved too slow. However, update 1.81 has renewed interest in the title, introducing a new roguelite mode and gameplay improvements, as well as smoother animations for the weapons.
A small but interesting failure
To encourage players to try FBC: Firebreak, Remedy has announced a free weekend that will take place on Steam from January 23 to 25. During this period, players will be able to enjoy not only the enhanced experience but also a Double XP event, which provides the opportunity to double the experience gained during gameplay. This strategy aims to re-engage a player base that had drastically decreased, with fewer than 100 active players according to SteamDB.
Despite these efforts, Remedy Entertainment faces significant challenges, as game sales have not met internal projections, resulting in a potential loss of 14.9 million euros. This situation has led CEO Tero Virtala to announce his departure after nearly a decade at the helm of the company, which raises a transition period while a new leader is sought. Nevertheless, Remedy is not stopping and continues to work on future projects, including remakes of Max Payne and Control 2, which promise to maintain interest in the brand.
