Some manga classics never age. That’s why it’s logical for them to be re-adapted from time to time into other media, whether it’s television, film, or anime. Manga is always a good source of inspiration for Japanese media, especially when it comes to popular or cult manga. For this reason, whenever a remake or reboot of a beloved work is announced, instead of being surprised, we often wonder why it didn’t happen sooner.
Today, it has been announced that Bartender, the manga by Joh Araki and Nagatomo Kenji, will have a new anime adaptation. Animated by Studio Liber, it is set to premiere in April 2024 with the title “Bartender – Glass of God.”
Bartender is a manga that was serialized in the Super Jump magazine from May 2004 to December 2011. It follows a young man named Ryu Sasakura, a cocktail prodigy rumored to be able to serve “the glass of the gods.” This leads to each chapter being the encounter of a person with a particular problem who, upon meeting Sasakura, drinks a cocktail that gives them a new perspective on life, helping them resolve their conflicts. All of this is interwoven with insights into the world of cocktails.
The manga already had an anime adaptation in 2006, consisting of eleven episodes, produced by Palm Studio. Despite not being a very well-known studio, the anime is still considered a beloved cult classic by the audience.
That’s why the announcement of “Bartender – Glass of God” is fantastic news for all anime fans. We’ll still have to wait a few months to see this new adaptation, which will premiere in the West via Crunchyroll, but we could be looking at one of the best series of the year if it’s as good as the manga or the original adaptation.
