The privacy and security of our personal data are fundamental, especially when it comes to the photos and videos we store on our devices. On the iPhone, we have a very simple yet effective way to keep our multimedia content private, away from prying eyes. Although it’s not possible to directly put a password on the Photos app, there is a method to hide and lock photos and videos that will allow us to maintain our privacy without compromises.

How to protect photos and videos with a password?

The process is quite simple. First, open the Photos app on our iPhone or iPad. We can select any album or go to the recent photos section. Tap the Select button in the upper right corner and choose all the photos and videos we want to hide. Once you have made our selection, tap the button in the form of three dots and choose Hide. Then simply confirm by selecting Hide x Photos/Videos.

Now that the photos have disappeared from the photo library, let’s make sure that to access them, we need a password, Touch ID, or Face ID. Exit Photos and open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad. Go to the Photos section and enable the option Use Face ID or Use Touch ID for Hidden Album. This will lock the hidden album with a password, and we can use the biometric system to unlock it.

Now, how do we access the images? Simply open the Photos app, go to Albums, and scroll down to find the Hidden album. When selected, our device will prompt us for authentication using Face ID or Touch ID. Once authenticated, we will have access to all the photos and videos we have hidden.

Upon exiting the Hidden album, it will automatically lock, ensuring the photos and videos we have chosen to keep private are secure once again. This way, we can rest assured that only we will have access to this hidden and protected content. It’s a truly simple method that doesn’t require third-party apps or anything similar. Just like converting our photos into portraits after taking them, all we need is the Photos app on our iPhone or iPad.
