Nothing like ending the month of January with a PlayStation conference full of games and with a major surprise in the form of a new IP. As it could not be otherwise, it was Hideo Kojima who spiced things up yesterday.
But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. In this article, we are going to review all the games that were presented yesterday during Sony’s conference, focused on the titles that will be released this year and next year, 2025. Although we hope there will be more surprises from now on… or their catalog is going to be somewhat scarce.
Without further ado, here is the list of the video games they showed us yesterday at the PlayStation State of Play. By the way, being able to watch it in 4K at launch is a nice touch for those of us who follow the conferences on the TV. We have the entire conference up here, in case you want to watch it again.
Helldivers 2
The event started with a new trailer for Helldivers 2, scheduled for release on February 8th. The trailer showed several scenes of the Helldivers fighting against all kinds of enemies, from huge mechs to giant monsters.
The video also shows a walking mech that players can pilot and take into battle.
Stellar Blade
Next up was Stellar Blade, the new action game from Shift Up. The immersion began by introducing the post-apocalyptic Earth setting, as well as its heroine, Eve.
We also met a large part of their support team, as well as the vending machines and campsites scattered around the world. In them, Eve can recover her health and improve her equipment when she needs it.
Next, we are shown a huge city hidden under the wasteland. Eve can stock up on supplies, complete side missions, and much more while visiting it. The release of Stellar Blade is scheduled for April 26, 2024.
Sonic X Shadow Generations
The presentation gave way to the first revelation of the State Of Play: Sonic x Shadow Generations, a new version of Sonic Generations from 2010. The trailer focuses on Shadow’s gameplay, which bears a strong resemblance to the game he starred in on PlayStation 2 in 2006.
The release of Sonic x Shadow Generations is scheduled for autumn 2024.
Zenless Zone Zero
The next free MMO adventure from Hoyoverse, Zenless Zone Zero, was next on the State Of Play list, where a new trailer was shown. It was confirmed that the game is being developed for PlayStation 5.
Dave The Diver x Godzilla
After announcing his collaboration with Dredge at The Game Awards 2023, the next collaboration of Dave The Diver was announced during State Of Play, and this time things are a bit more… colossal.
Godzilla will enter the world of Dave The Diver in May of this year. Dave The Diver will arrive on PS5 in 2024, along with a crossover with Godzilla
Silent Hill: The Short Message
In another surprising revelation, Konami announced Silent Hill: The Short Message, a first-person survival horror game set in the Silent Hill universe.
Follow a girl named Maya, who must travel through a dark house in search of something, while being stalked by a monstrous entity. Silent Hill: The Short Message is free to play and is now available.
Silent Hill 2 Remake
After The Short Message, Konami has offered us a first look at the Silent Hill 2 remake made by Bloober Team. We see James Sunderland fighting enemies and exploring familiar locations from the original game, such as the Wood Side apartments.
Unfortunately, no release date has been given for Silent Hill 2 Remake, as the trailer ends with a vague message: “Now in development”.
Judas
Judas, a new first-person shooter from Ghost Story Studios and Ken Levine, was the next featured game. The trailer showcased Mayflower, a city adrift in space where everyone spies on each other. Players will control the protagonist, Judas, as they try to fight against the machines that cover everything in the city.
No release date has been announced for Judas, at the end of the trailer it only shows the message “Now in development”. However, it does show a combat similar to that of BioShock.
Metro: Awakening VR
PlayStation VR 2 saw its first game of the conference with Metro: Awakening, which brings the historic Metro franchise to virtual reality for the first time.
The game will be set before the events of Metro 2033, and will follow Serdar, a doctor who is searching for his wife in the hostile tunnels of the Metro world. Metro: Awakening VR is scheduled for release in 2024.
Rise of the Ronin
Next, we saw an extensive preview of the second game announced by Sony at the event: Rise Of The Ronin, a new open-world samurai epic by Team Ninja.
The trailer focused on three main elements: combat, with multiple action scenes showing our hero in intense hand-to-hand combat; traversal, which also allowed us to get a glimpse of the game world; and choice, as the game’s story will give players options that will affect the world around them.
Rise Of The Ronin, just like Dragon’s Dogma 2, will be released on March 22nd.
Death Stranding 2: On The Beach
The last segment of State Of Play was dedicated to Death Stranding 2, which now includes the subtitle On The Beach. The extensive trailer introduced both new characters and returning ones, including the return of Norman Reedus as the hero Sam Porter Bridges, and the introduction of Drawbridge, a new group dedicated to continuing Bridges’ work and reconnecting the world.
We also see Leo, Sam’s brother, wielding a unique weapon similar to a railgun that is controlled by touching it as if it were a guitar. Death Stranding 2: On The Beach will be released in 2025.
After the DS2 trailer, Hideo Kojima appeared on the broadcast to announce that his next project for Sony after Death Stranding 2 will be a new IP… and a return to “spy action”. With this, he is working on three games for the coming years.
