Cillian Murphy is the actor of the moment, and to prove it, you just need to look a little ahead in time and see him holding the Oscar for Best Leading Actor for Oppenheimer. But while we wait for this to happen, the Peaky Blinders actor is in negotiations to star in the new film of his life saga.
28 years later will be the third movie of 28 days later, a zombie film that made Murphy famous in 2002. The movie is a classic of the genre, and its sequel 28 weeks later was also outstanding. Now, Sony has given the green light to its third movie, behind which will be two of the biggest stars in film direction: Danny Boyle and Alex Garland.

The most dangerous zombies in cinema are back
The directors of, respectively, Trainspotting and Ex Machina, have already worked together on the first film, and now they have come together to write the next installment of this “very fast running” zombie story. We still don’t have more details about what will happen in this feature film, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, the chosen one to star in it, according to the screenwriters and directors, is Murphy himself. For now, the actor is serving as executive producer, so it’s pretty much confirmed.
However, 28 years later it won’t be an independent film. Apparently, Sony wants to carry out a new trilogy based on this story, beyond just one film, so what Boyle and Garland could be preparing is much bigger. It could resemble what was done at the time with the remake of Planet of the Apes, which is already on its fourth installment, or with Jurassic World as a logical evolution of Jurassic Park. We will soon see where all this leads.
