By now it is clear that Dune: part 2 has been a huge success. Denis Villeneuve’s film, which serves as a sequel to the 2021 film, is receiving critical acclaim—it has reached 97% approval on Rotten Tomatoes—and is also a box office success, being the most-watched release of 2024 so far. In fact, the film is on track to surpass its predecessor and opens the doors to a final feature film that will conclude the trilogy.
But not everyone is lucky enough to see it in theaters, and there are many people who will have to wait until the movie arrives on streaming platforms to watch it. Many of them will remember that the first part of Dune was available on HBO Max from the same day of its release, but it’s not something that will be repeated with the sequel. So when and on which platform will we be able to watch Dune: part 2 on streaming?
HBO Max is the chosen platform
For now, what has been confirmed is that HBO Max will repeat as the platform, presumably exclusive, where the second part of Dune will be released. And I say presumably because the first part was released on Netflix and other platforms later on. But for now, we will be able to see it on HBO Max initially.
But when will this be? According to what we have seen in movies like Barbie or Wonka, the assigned date arrives about three months after the premiere. In this way, we could be talking about June or any other time in early summer 2024. Therefore, it is most likely that they will not announce the date until May, since that would somehow hinder the film’s progress in theaters, which is currently going well and seems to be getting better and better throughout the weeks.
