Nintendo has made a triumphant return with the launch of the Switch 2 on June 5, 2025, selling over 3.5 million units in just four days. This milestone makes it the fastest-selling hardware in the history of the Japanese company, generating a great buzz among fans and the industry as a whole.
Closer to Series S than to PlayStation 4
One of the most debated points among the gaming community is the technical power of this new console. According to Takuto Edagawa, producer at Koei Tecmo, the Switch 2 is positioned closer to the Xbox Series S than to the PlayStation 4, an analysis that suggests a more ambitious technological leap than many expected. During a recent interview with Wccftech, Edagawa explained that, although it is complicated to generalize about performance due to the variety of factors involved, the comparison with Microsoft’s console indicates a significant advancement.
Despite this power, Koei Tecmo has encountered challenges in the development of Wild Hearts S for the Switch 2, especially in the implementation of the multiplayer mode, which has increased its limit from three to four players. This difficulty is related to the complexity of the character creation system, which Edagawa described as “very robust,” demonstrating that the console continues to face challenges in demanding technical scenarios.
Koei Tecmo’s statements project the Switch 2 as a hybrid system capable of competing with current market standards, changing the perception of the console among consumers. As users begin to explore its graphical and technical performance, especially in third-party titles, interest in the Switch 2 promises to grow even more in the coming months.
