In an effort to compete with the traditional cinematic experience, streaming platforms have begun to invest large sums in the production of action blockbusters. However, this strategy has raised doubts about the return on investment, as many of these films achieve high viewing numbers but do not leave a memorable impact on the audience.
Better not play dirty
One of the most anticipated releases in this context is the new Shane Black movie, titled ‘Dirty Game’, available on Amazon Prime Video. Despite a modest release, the film has been well received, noted for its combination of action and comedy. Black, known for his ability to blend noir with humor, presents in this installment a violent thriller that alleviates some of the anxiety generated by the perfidy of other recent releases.
‘Dirty Game’ tells the story of Parker, a thief who faces a mafia in New York after a job goes wrong. Despite certain technical issues, such as digital effects that do not reach the desired level, the film stands out for its quality that surpasses the average of streaming productions, which demonstrates Black’s effort to deliver a quality product.
Despite its virtues, the film suffers from a ensemble approach that diminishes the usual spark in Black’s narratives. ‘Dirty Game’ has become the most viewed movie on the platform. Thus, despite the enthusiasm for the return of an acclaimed director, the film feels somewhat like a lesser product, although its entertainment value is undeniable.
