The acclaimed director Ross Duffer has shared new details about the creative changes in the final season of ‘Stranger Things’, particularly regarding the absence of the Demogorgons during the epic final battle against Vecna.
According to Duffer, the decision to exclude these creatures was due to what he called “Demogorgon fatigue”, which led to rewriting a sequence that originally included the iconic monsters from the series.
This revelation was documented by Martina Radwan in the upcoming documentary ‘One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things 5’.
Demogorgon Fatigue
Radwan explained that the discussions in the writers’ room were key to this decision. Although some team members were in favor of including the Demogorgons, Duffer and executive producer Kate Trefry agreed that it was time to evolve the narrative and avoid a repetition of elements that could generate disinterest. “It’s fascinating to see how they think,” Radwan stated, referring to the dynamic of the team behind the series.
It is interesting to note that, during the season, it was established that Vecna could control the Demogorgons, using a hive mind connection to manipulate these creatures.
This raises questions about the logic of their absence in the final confrontation, where the protagonists, led by Eleven, face the threat of evil in ‘The Abyss’. Additionally, Will’s arc, as he learns to channel Vecna’s power, could have added another dramatic layer to the confrontation.
For now, all episodes of ‘Stranger Things’ are available for streaming, and fans can access explanatory resources to decipher the complexity of the final plot. With so much discussion about the narrative and changes in the last season, the series keeps its audience engaged and speculating about possible twists in the events.
