Fast & Furious is a very popular franchise that has always posted excellent numbers. With its finale set for March 17, 2028, Vin Diesel has done his part to make sure we’re excited by then. “I just read Mike Lesslie’s ‘Fast Forever’ script. It’s the best script I’ve read in decades. I’m still crying…”, the actor has even gone so far as to say of the new film that will close the saga forever. At least in theory.
A film at risk
The problem is that the film’s director, Louis Leterrier, seems to be less enthusiastic than the actor. And that’s what he said in an interview with Polygon. “I’d love to tell you the whole truth, but I can’t. There will be an ending, and it’s great. I was very, very lucky to be part of the franchise, I love Vin and Universal. It’s great working with them. So yes. We’ll see, hopefully“, making it clear that there’s a major problem with the film.
A problem that seems to go beyond a simple disagreement. As he said in the same interview, “I’m not going to direct it now because I’m finishing another film, but yes, this franchise will have an ending. They’ve made a roller coaster! They have to finish it. Someone has to finish it“. Something that raises the question of whether he’s going to finish the film and when. Because while March 17, 2028 sounds like a very distant date, it isn’t quite so distant when it comes to filming and post-production. And that means the film could very well be delayed.
All of this certainly seems to mean that there’s a much more complex story than Leterrier is telling here, although we still can’t say for sure. So, for now, all that’s left is to wait and see whether we’ll finally see the last Fast & Furious film in 2028. Although knowing Vin Diesel, something tells us that will happen one way or another.
