As Hollywood is realizing that in the conflict in Palestine there is clearly a victim and a perpetrator, the awful things that were done to the actors who dared to call it out early on are becoming more noticeable. That’s especially true for Melissa Barrera, whose storyline in Scream 7 was removed completely and they went in a vastly less interesting direction, leaving it unfinished forever.
Do you like unfinished sagas?
Now, Skeet Ulrich, who played one of the two killers in the first Scream, has made it clear that without Barrera his character can never have a coherent ending. In fact, he doesn’t see himself returning to the saga anytime soon because Barrera, who played his daughter, Sam Carpenter, has been erased from continuity: “Without her and Sam Loomis, there is no Billy Loomis”. So yeah, a genocide has ended up causing the end of an entire storyline.
“It was in his head. They had their chance and didn’t complete the three-film arc they told me about“. And it’s a shame, because, as a Scream fan, I can say that it looked incredibly interesting and was going to culminate in an explosive and unexpected way. Maybe in the future he’ll make an unexpected appearance again? You never know in this saga. As long as they act like Scream 7 never happened, everything should be fine.
The other killer from the first film, Matthew Lillard, has already stated that he is openly ashamed to appear in this seventh installment, and rightly so: Barrera’s firing is one of the lowest points in recent Hollywood history, after all. It can be exciting to appear in Scream again, but come on, not at any cost.
