DreadOut, the classic horror game franchise from Indonesian company Digital Happiness, returns to give us more scares, now remastered.
During the first half of the past decade, horror games had a particular boom. In addition to the release of several games that defined the genre, it also happened thanks to the rise of Youtube and streaming. Videos of people playing horror games became tremendously popular. And some titles knew how to exploit it in a particularly noticeable way.
DreadOut, a game by the Indonesian company Digital Happiness, managed to capture the pulse of the time well. Playing as Linda, a high school student, we must survive in an abandoned village full of spirits and other supernatural creatures. Our only tools are a smartphone and a camera, with which we must manage to survive in our chilling encounters against the ghosts.
Now DreadOut returns in the form of a remastered collection, called DreadOut Remastered Collection. This compilation will include the original DreadOut from 2014 and the standalone expansion DreadOut: Keepers of the Dark from 2016. Although the franchise would expand with DreadEye from 2017 and DreadOut 2 from 2020, these two installments will not be included.
While both games are available for PC, the interest of this remaster is that they will be released for consoles for the first time. A unique opportunity to relive two classic scare, reaction, and chat excitement titles, which will be released throughout 2024 for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch.
DreadOut is a survival horror game whose strengths are its atmosphere and well-designed puzzles.
