A animator recently shared a presentation on LinkedIn aimed at convincing Sony of the viability of a remaster of Jak & Daxter: The Precursor Legacy.Despite his efforts, the project did not receive the company’s approval, leaving many fans disappointed. The Jak & Daxter saga has been absent from the video game scene since its success on PlayStation 2, while Naughty Dog has focused on other franchises like The Last of Us and Uncharted.
A project that will never see the light
Travis Howe, the animator behind the proposal, highlighted that the idea was presented some time ago but did not manage to capture the necessary interest to move forward. In his post, Howe sent a message to the gaming community to support his proposal on social media in order to show Sony that there is a tangible interest in a remaster of Jak & Daxter. In his presentation, Howe compared how the original title from 2001 would look against a possible remastering, leaving many surprised by the graphic potential of the project.
Although the remaster did not come to fruition, Howe expressed his pride in the work done and encouraged fans to like and share his post to send a clear message to Sony about the existing demand. The remastering of other Naughty Dog titles like The Last of Us has raised expectations for a possible revival of Jak & Daxter, especially considering that Naughty Dog’s IP has been in limbo for years.
The fact that other successful franchises have received renewed attention may open the door to future developments. However, it is up to Sony to decide whether to greenlight a project that would undoubtedly excite a fan base eager to experience the adventures of Jak and Daxter on a new generation of consoles.
