ASUS has started selling the ROG Gjallarhorn in the US for about $600. It’s the company’s first gaming soundbar, and it’s pitched as a single-box audio upgrade for a PC, console, or TV setup.
This thing is aimed squarely at enthusiasts, not the usual desktop-speaker crowd. It also says something about where ROG is heading next. ASUS has already filled out the usual gaming lineup with laptops, monitors, headsets, and peripherals; now it’s pushing into bigger, room-filling sound and setups that work better when more than one person is listening.
ASUS says the Gjallarhorn packs a 2.1.2-channel system with Dolby Atmos, along with a 6.5-inch, 65W wireless subwoofer. That sub uses a low-latency 5GHz connection, so the bass stays in sync without adding another cable across the room.
The soundbar also includes built-in microphones with Acoustic Echo Cancellation, according to ASUS, so you can jump into voice chat without wearing a headset. The idea is to cut down on game-audio bleed and background noise, so your teammates don’t hear everything feeding back through the mic.
If you’re after high-end gaming audio and want a lot of connection options, this is the kind of release that’s easy to pay attention to. That said, early reactions seem more sold on the feature set and broad compatibility than on whether the sound itself clearly tops rivals such as the Razer Leviathan V2 Pro or Creative’s Sound Blaster Katana V2.
ASUS says the ROG Gjallarhorn is on sale now in the US for around $600. Connectivity covers HDMI 2.1 eARC, USB-C, optical audio, and Bluetooth 5.3, with support for PCs, Macs, PlayStation, Xbox, and more.
