Asus has started taking pre-orders for the Asus ROG Xbox Ally X20, a 20th-anniversary Windows gaming handheld, ahead of its October 15, 2026 launch.
The standalone version costs $1,299.99 in the US, £1,299 in the UK, and C$1,899 in Canada. In the US, there’s also a $2,499.99 bundle that adds the ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 AR glasses, a dbrand Killswitch case, and a custom Pelican Protector Case. You also get a translucent black chassis with gold accents, and Asus is pretty clearly selling this as the more premium option, not just the one with beefier specs.
Inside, the Asus ROG Xbox Ally X20 sticks with the ROG Ally X foundation: a Ryzen Z2 Extreme, 24GB of RAM, and a 1TB SSD. The upgrades come elsewhere, with a 7.4-inch OLED HDR display, TMR joysticks, a transforming D-pad, and redesigned face buttons meant to improve contrast, stick feel, and input precision. Early hands-on impressions have been strong, especially when it comes to the screen and controls, and if value matters most, the standalone model looks like the one to get, while the bundle feels more aimed at collectors and die-hard ROG fans.
You can pre-order the Asus ROG Xbox Ally X20 now through Asus, and when it lands it’ll join the premium handheld field alongside Valve’s Steam Deck OLED and MSI’s Claw 8 EX, with reported RAM shortages also helping push prices higher.
