One of the stories of the week has been the price of GTA6, but also the fact that its physical edition isn’t all that physical: it won’t have a disc inside, but a download code. This has sparked a backlash, as well as unleashing many rumors of a proper physical edition of the game in the near future. Along with the reaction from other studios that have taken the opportunity to stress that their games will indeed have a physical version, as God intended. That was the case for Insomniac, for example.
A game on the disc
In a reply to a fan on X, Insomniac Games said, not without some sarcasm, that Marvel’s Wolverine is going to have a physical version that will include a disc. They wanted to make it clear that they aren’t going to do the same thing Rockstar have done, distancing themselves from the ongoing controversy. And that doesn’t seem like it’s going to die down anytime soon.
Even so, it doesn’t seem like this is affecting GTA6 in particular. The game continues to generate buzz, as the most anticipated game of 2026 by a huge margin. With no other game daring to release in its vicinity within two weeks of it, there are only two exceptions to this rule, both from Atari: Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered and Barbie Rewind, which release on November 3 and 12 respectively.
With GTA6 announced for November 19 and with aspirations of being the best-selling game in history, Marvel’s Wolverine isn’t aiming that high, but at least it will come with a physical edition with a disc. And we’ll be able to play it much earlier, since it will release next September 15 exclusively for PlayStation 5.
