The Lord of the Rings fandom is one of the most difficult to conquer in pop culture, even more so than Star Wars or video games. That’s why Amazon Prime Video took a big risk with The Rings of Power, a series made a little “their way” in 2022 to bring back J.R.R. Tolkien’s world. The reviews for the first season were disastrous, and despite being a success with the audience, Tolkien fans labeled the platform as the worst enemy of his legacy.
However, everything seems to have changed with the second season. Although its trailers already warned that things were going to improve substantially, few expected it to be so well received. The series has premiered with 85% positive reviews on the platform. Of course, the audience still has to give their opinion… but it seems that we are facing a considerable boost for the series.
The darkness arrives to Middle Earth
The Rings of Power takes place during the Second Age of the Sun, thousands of years before the events narrated in The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. The main plot revolves around the creation of the Rings of Power, particularly the One Ring, and the rise of the dark Lord Sauron, who deceives various peoples of Middle Earth to forge these rings to dominate the world.

The series explores how these events shaped the history of Middle Earth, showing the corruption and deceit that Sauron used to consolidate his power. In the first season, we saw the revelation of this great villain. In the second, it seems that we are already facing the release of the darkness itself, with great battles of epic proportions and an adventure almost unparalleled.
