Binance faces new reports of a $6.3 billion hack: vibe coding is blamed
Binance is dealing with rumors today about a supposed $6.3 billion hack linked to “vibe coding.” So far, that’s all they are: rumors. The reports making the rounds are dated in the future, and there’s still no evidence , or any credible reporting, showing that Binance actually suffered a loss on that scale.
What you can verify is much narrower. Binance’s track record includes the 2022 BSC Token Hub exploit, widely estimated at about $570 million, and the 2019 theft from a Binance hot wallet of 7,074 BTC, worth about $40.7 million at the time, based on Binance’s own disclosures and reporting from when those incidents happened.
In the version of the story now circulating online, the attack starts with a malicious ad that delivers a tampered Homebrew installer to a developer who’s testing a coding assistant. From there, the intruders supposedly move through fake job interviews, a malware-laced coding assignment, other machines used by the Binance wallet team, and finally an internal coding tool that lets them move laterally.
If you follow crypto security, keep an eye on this one. “Vibe coding,” meaning describing software in plain language and having an assistant write or refine it, can absolutely speed things up. It can also make people trust code they haven’t really inspected, including output that repeats prompt-injection flaws, hardcoded secrets, or weak authentication. Still, no public mega-theft has shown vibe coding itself was the root cause.
The bigger pattern matters here. Authorities, including the FBI, have linked major crypto thefts, including the roughly $600 million Ronin hack, to North Korean groups such as Lazarus and TraderTraitor. For now, the only sensible move is to watch for Binance statements and confirmation from established outlets.

"en-US": "Jesús Pina follows what artificial intelligence is actually changing in the software people use every day, telling apart what already works from what is still only an announcement. What interests him is the practical effect: which tool saves real time, which one stops halfway and which one deserves a second look before you install it. He works daily with AI models inside Softonic's own editorial process, so he knows their limits fairly well.",
