CoD Comms have officially reactivated in preparation for the launch of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. Fans can now count down the weeks until the next highly-anticipated installment of the franchise launches. Hours ago, Activision announced that Call of Duty MWII will be released on Friday, October 28th, 2022.
Accompanying the release date is a slew of media, including striking artwork and a video portraying some of the most iconic characters. Among the characters showcased in the artworks are Gaz, Captain Price, Soap, Ghost, and Alejandro. The video seems to be more than just a tactic to garner hype; it may actually hold clues as to when we’ll see the first gameplay reveal for CoD MWII.
The most damning piece of evidence to this end is bright green graffiti in the video reading J-8-22. This could be a completely unrelated design choice, but logic dictates that it’s the date for the release of new information; June 8th, 2022. If this is true, fans only need to wait around two weeks to get a good look at what’s next for the Call of Duty franchise.
The fans have made no secret of the high hopes they hold for Modern Warfare 2. The new installment is being developed by Infinity Ward, the studio behind 2019’s highly-anticipated title, Modern Warfare. Players have had a lot to say about MW over the years, and not all of it is good. However, hopes are high that Modern Warfare II will follow in the steps of its predecessor and break numerous sales and earnings records when it’s released later this year.
Infinity Ward may be under even more pressure than usual this time, though. A Bloomberg report from February detailed that the next installment of Treyarch won’t come until around 2023, meaning that Modern Warfare II will be the studio’s main title for at least two years.
Fiscal concerns aside, if the teasers and promotional media for Modern Warfare II are anything to go by, this game is due to redefine the future of the Call of Duty franchise and possibly, to a large extent, the gaming industry on the whole. We’re incredibly excited to see what comes on June 8th, if anything.
