What is CarPlay Ultra?
CarPlay Ultra is Apple’s new in-car operating system that fully takes over a car’s digital interfaces. Unlike traditional CarPlay, which is limited to certain apps, this version controls everything from the gauge cluster to the climate settings. Automakers like Ford, Audi, Hyundai, and Volvo have already committed to supporting it in future models.
A new design for every car
CarPlay Ultra offers a uniquely tailored experience for each automaker. Apple designers collaborate directly with car brands to create custom user interfaces. In Aston Martin’s case, that means a blend of luxury aesthetics and iOS functionality, with bespoke gauges, color themes, and full-screen navigation options.
Full control from a single system
This update gives drivers direct access to vehicle settings through a new app interface. From tire pressure to drive modes and temperature control, everything can now be managed within CarPlay Ultra. Voice commands via Siri also work for adjusting climate or media settings.
Deep integration with widgets and apps
Beyond driving, CarPlay Ultra introduces dedicated screens for iPhone-powered widgets, showing calendar events, reminders, and real-time weather. These widgets can appear either in the central screen or embedded in the instrument panel.
