The new adaptation of Carrie, directed by Mike Flanagan, promises to be a faithful reflection of Stephen King’s original novel, raising high expectations among horror fans. This series, which will unfold over eight episodes, will allow for a deeper exploration of the story compared to previous adaptations, including the iconic 1976 film. The arrival of this series is scheduled for Prime Video in 2026.
8 episodes filled with tension
Matthew Lillard, who plays Principal Grayle, praised Flanagan’s storytelling ability, highlighting his meticulous approach to production. “We rehearsed for three weeks and he had planned every shot, down to the last minute of filming,” Lillard explained. His effort has resulted in the first three episodes being completed and edited, providing a sneak peek of what’s to come.
In this new version, the character of Grayle is distinguished by his capacity for empathy and logical reasoning, although, as in the novel, he faces the impossibility of avoiding the final tragedy. The series will also incorporate multiple perspectives in telling the story of Carrie White, including tender performances from a diverse cast, with Summer H. Howell in the lead role. Actors like Siena Agudong and Alison Thornton join the cast, each bringing different levels of experience that enrich the narrative.
The anticipation for Carrie has grown significantly, not only due to Flanagan’s work, known for his effective adaptations of King, but also because of the quality of the cast. Lillard expressed his disappointment over the year-long wait, stating that the series is “fantastic” and worth every moment of anticipation, offering viewers a fresh and richer look at the story of one of the most iconic protagonists in literary horror.
