Hollywood has already gotten over its anger with Will Smith and he will star in a new million-dollar action thriller

Do you remember the reactions when Will Smith got up in the middle of the Oscars to slap Chris Rock? How everyone condemned him, claiming that something like that could not be allowed and that Smith was banned forever from Hollywood? Well, everyone forgot about it when they saw that the latest installment of Bad Boys grossed over 400 million dollars at the box office. Money always speaks louder than any slight. Do you remember the reactions when Will Smith stood up in the middle of the Oscars to slap Chris Rock? How everyone condemned him, claiming that something like that could not be allowed and that Smith was banned from Hollywood forever? Well, everyone forgot about it when they saw that the latest installment of Bad Boys managed to rake in over 400 million dollars at the box office. Money always speaks louder than any slight.

It’s a legend

David Gordon Green, director (or rather perpetrator) of the new Halloween installments, will be in charge of directing Smith in a movie called, in an incredibly 90s way, Supermax. The curious thing is that, even before filming, Amazon MGM has bought the rights for 70 million dollars and has decided that it will not be released in theaters, but directly on Prime Video. Confidence, yes, but little.

Supermax, which will begin filming in the summer, will be, according to reports, an action thriller full of twists about two FBI agents investigating a murder that has taken place in the world’s most secure prison. The typical secure prison full of murders, of course. Supposedly, if all goes well, we will see it next year, although more than the movie, there will be talk about Smith’s ability to attract audiences: Will he remain infallible or is he doomed to direct-to-streaming movies from now on?

There is only one thing that is clear: it doesn’t seem like the Oscars are going to call him to return to the gala for many years… and Supermax is not going to change that. Things that happen when you slap people for no reason.

Even Henry Cavill couldn't save the movie of this iconic animated series, which is going straight to streaming

Now that the nostalgia for the 80s is quite outdated, it is true that the target audience for Voltron is focused on other things, like, mainly, surviving and raising a family. The original series, which adapted the anime Beast King Go-Lion in an American way (that is, dubbing, re-editing, and even adding footage from another series) between 1984 and 1985, has long since taken a back seat… and Amazon isn’t even going to make the effort to re-establish the brand. In the face of a possible setback, we set it aside and that’s it. Shall we take a spin, dude? Let’s not kid ourselves: Voltron smells […]

Now that the nostalgia for the 80s is quite outdated, it is true that the target audience for Voltron is focused on other things, like, mainly, surviving and raising a family. The original series, which between 1984 and 1985 adapted in an American way (that is, dubbing, re-editing, and even adding montage from another series) the anime Beast King Go-Lion, has long been relegated to the background… and on Amazon, they won’t even make the effort to reestablish the brand. In light of the possible crash, we set it aside and that’s it.

Shall we take a ride, dude?

Let’s not kid ourselves: Voltron smells of greasy potatoes, tube television, and nostalgic childhood, and for Amazon, none of this makes sense in 2026. That’s why, as announced, the live-action movie that would adapt the series has gone from a theatrical release to a direct release on Prime Video. Fans haven’t taken it very well, of course, but there’s someone who is having an even worse time than they are: Henry Cavill.

And the thing is, Cavill was the driving force behind the project, and he has previously stated how much fun he was having with the movie, of which we still don’t even know the plot. We only have statements from its director, Rawson Marshall Thurber, who claimed a few years ago that “we want to stay true to the heart and spirit of Voltron. In this movie, we are going to introduce a new generation of pilots. We have reimagined Voltron for the live-action world, but staying true to those iconic elements that you love and that I love.”

That chill you’ve felt in the universe is from the fans who don’t want to hear about “a new generation.” Amazon shouldn’t be so afraid of Voltron, by the way: from 2016 to 2018, Netflix released its reboot of 78 episodes that was a critical success. Sometimes, you just have to believe more in what you’re doing… And even more so if someone like Cavill is behind the robot. There’s no need to nitpick much more.

Tolkien fans are eagerly awaiting the return of this series, and they will see it sooner than they think

Fans of Middle-earth have received good news: the third season of The Rings of Power from Prime Video will not be delayed until 2027, as had been recently rumored. According to an exclusive report from The Hollywood Reporter, the highly anticipated return of the series is scheduled for this year, thus dispelling the speculation that had accumulated around its future. This announcement is particularly relevant, considering that the production represents one of Amazon’s biggest bets, with a substantial base of 170 million viewers globally and a key role in acquiring new subscribers.

Do they have your sword for the third season?

This upcoming season stands out for taking place at a critical moment in Tolkien’s narrative, specifically during the height of the War of the Elves and Sauron, a central conflict of the Second Age of Middle-earth. In this context, the rise of the Dark Lord and the forging of the One Ring are crucial elements, directly connecting with the rich mythology created by the British author. However, the series has faced criticism for its tendency to reconfigure fundamental elements of the original work.

One of the most notable changes is the representation of Galadriel, who in the series is portrayed as a more impulsive character marked by trauma, rather than the wise and almost mythical figure found in Tolkien’s texts. This narrative approach has sparked intense debate among purists and new followers of the story. Additionally, there has been speculation about the introduction of a new romantic interest for Galadriel, which contradicts her traditional story with Celeborn.

With the early return of The Rings of Power, the series reaffirms its position at the epicenter of the debate between adaptation and reinterpretation of Tolkien’s work, leaving fans questioning to what extent it will stray from the original essence in its representation of the One Ring.
