Disney has just surprised the world with the trailer for Mufasa: The Lion King.

The movie will premiere in theaters on December 20, 2024, in cinemas worldwide. The question is: when will Mufasa: The Lion King premiere on Disney+?

Children of the 80s and 90s are jumping for joy in their seats, as one of the most important movies of our childhood, The Lion King, is going to have a prequel where we will be told the life of Mufasa, Simba’s father.

Disney has released the first trailer for Mufasa: The Lion King, a prequel to the 2019 photorealistic remake of The Lion King, and has revealed that Blue Ivy Carter has joined the voice cast.

From director Barry Jenkins, Mufasa will explore the origin story of the titular lion, showcasing his childhood with his brother Taka alias Scar, who becomes the main antagonist of The Lion King.

What do we know about Disney’s new project with The Lion King

Aaron Pierre and Kelvin Harrison Jr. will voice the younger versions of Mufasa and Scar, respectively. James Earl Jones voiced Mufasa in both the original 1994 film and the 2019 remake. Jeremy Irons voiced Scar in 1994, while Chiwetel Ejiofor did so in 2019.

Many members of the 2019 voice cast return, such as John Kani as Rafiki, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa, Billy Eichner as Timon, Donald Glover as Simba, and Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as Nala. Beyoncé’s daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, will portray Kiara, the daughter of King Simba and Queen Nala. The 2019 film was directed by Jon Favreau from a screenplay by Jeff Nathanson, who returns to write Mufasa.

It was also revealed that Lin-Manuel Miranda is writing the songs for the film, produced by himself and Mark Mancina, with additional music and performances by Lebo M.

“The Lion King has an incredible musical legacy, with music from some of the best composers of the moment, and I feel honored and proud to be a part of it,” Miranda said in a statement.
